We need a native connection to Analysis Services for Java similar to the SQL relational database using JDBC. On the C#, we have ADOMD.NET. We need the equivalent for other enterprise programming languages with Java being the biggest outside C#. Requiring our customer to setup IIS with the data pump dll is an extra support overhead. We also pull a lot more data across the network due to the SOAP request.

Imagine using the capabilities of SSIS or plain SQL Server and/or to execute Power Query transformations at high speeds. I see Power BI Designer as the transformations editor + small data transformation tool and SSIS/SQL as the big data transformation tool.

PowerView does not take input parameters at run time. In order to change the data being presented at runtime the user must use a filter or the query author must use a non-deterministic function in the query (e.g. MyDate = GETUTCDATE () ). Neither approach allows a user to create an optimal request that brings down just the data he/she wants to see. My understanding is that filtering in Power View requires the superset of data to be retrieved before the filter is applied. Nondeterministic functions do not provide the flexibility of parameters. This will be an important feature when dealing with datasets large enough to cause performance and/or stability issues.

Either a transferable ownership in case someone leaves or make the publisher of the SSAS model use an administrator account to publish so a new administrator can take over. An example - someone changes to a different role and a new owner takes over the server but the new owner cannot own the connection without deleting and re-building, which causes downstream users to lose their connection to the model and have to rebuild (similar with Data Catalog breakages).

Currently many teams manage SSAS role-based security using service accounts. However, service accounts are incompatible with O365 and the new two-factor authentication introduced by MSFT. Need a workaround to use role-based security with the new PowerBI Service.
