As of writing of this post - PowerBI Desktop - apply changes becomes a extremely slow operation when a Odata query is used with a large dataset. Solution: Include a OData Query builder within desktop App so that by using filters minimum amount of data is retrieved. $FIlter can be used today also however it will be be useful if that is made as a step while using odata queries i.e. display user option to build $filter. My experience while using MS CRM Online with Odata feeds on a large dataset - it becomes very slow. This will also save on Office 365 bandwidth for Microsoft besides helping BI Developers/Analyst in faster development time. At the moment there is possibility to setup refresh interval in Azure SQL database advanced option, but minimal refresh interval is 15 minutes. Fir some situations it’s not enough – 2-3 minutes would be much better. I know that using REST API it’s probably possible to get refresh rates we need, but it requires additional work and if data is already in Azure SQL database, it’s weird to use REST API to push it into Power BI. If more frequent refreshes disallowed due to higher resource consumption, let’s create another pricing option “Power BI Pro+”, which allows 2-3 minute refresh intervals and also bigger data model (up to 500 MB).
