Currently, Power BI workspaces are flat, meaning all content (reports, datasets, dashboards) exists at the same level. Admin and Member roles have unrestricted access to all content within the workspace, which poses challenges for environments where: Certain reports are certified or governed and should not be modified. Teams want to collaborate on draft or departmental reports without risking certified content. We propose the ability to create folders within a workspace, each with its own security roles, such as: Read-only folders for certified or published reports (e.g., "Certified Reports"). Editable folders for development and collaborative content (e.g., "Team Reports", "In Progress"). ✅ Benefits: Prevents accidental edits to certified content. Supports content governance within a single workspace. Encourages collaborative development without compromising production reports. Reduces the need to create multiple workspaces for basic segregation. Aligns with patterns seen in other tools like SharePoint and Tableau. 👥 Suggested Features: Ability to create folders inside a workspace. Assign role-based permissions per folder: Admin, Editor, Viewer. Option to mark folders as certified or read-only. Visibility control: some users can only see certain folders.
