configurable query timeout property on data source

Depending on the response time of the data source, a data refresh may result in an unwanted "canceled" refresh due to a query timeout limit within PowerBI. If a query does not return a part of or the whole result set within a specific time, the query is canceled by PowerBI. I suggest the PowerBI team to increase the default timeout value or even better to make this setting available as property within the "data source credential" settings.

  • In addition to cancelling if it doesn't receive the data in the desired time limit, the refresh fails if the datasource doesn't connect in less than 15 seconds. I believe the default for ODBC is 30 seconds, and they even have retry capabilities built into the ODBC driver. Don't bother trying to use them, PowerBI Ignores those properties. :(
