I have found no support for using existing data model hierarchies in either Power BI or Power BI Desktop. It is not either possible to create own hierarchies in Power BI Desktop. This feature would greatly approve the the ability to build reports based on eg. dates, geography and organizational structures.

- nishalitNew MemberWe've added this to the product. In the next release you'll also be able to drag and drop to create hierarchies as well.
- mdj1New MemberSpecifically hierarchies in SSAS Tabular as these are usually already in place if the Company has a SSAS Tabular model already.
- ahmed_akbarNew MemberDoes anyone know if this feature is on the roadmap as we may discount the entire product if this functionality is not available.
- joshfranklandNew MemberI agree, being able to use hierarchies that already exist in an SSAS tabular model (or to create these in PowerBI) and use them as drill throughs would be very useful.
- STPUCKNew MemberOur tabular cubes leverage hierarchies to simplify dimensions and ease of use. Not having this features requires us to maintain two tabular cube solutions or have many more unneeded fields in our dimensions
- niklas_viileineNew MemberHopefully this will soon be implemented in the upcoming updates of Power BI. The real-time connection to SSAS tabular and the ability to import Power Pivot data models loose much of their value if they cant be used as intended. Especially problematic when using explicit hierarchies.
- tas_ransonNew MemberI agree, this is a significant shortcoming currently. Essentially makes existing hierarchies worthless, and necessitates manually building drill downs where they are supported.
- nathalie_grund1New MemberHave the same Problem here. I found a possibility to build a kind of hierarchy in the Bar Chart with the last update, but in Matrix view there is nothing and we definitely need Hierarchies or drill possibilities there!
- jakub4New MemberUnbelievable that something as fundamental to reporting and analysis as hierarchies aren't supported out of the box

Advocate I
This is now possible with the update a couple months ago. Add more fields to the chart and it enables drill down with your defined hierarchy. I think the UI is still a little funky but the functionality is there.
