Snowflake connector should not require On-Premises gateway

Connecting to snowflake is great in Development. It did require a download of the ODBC connector. Is there a way, that we could have this baked in when publishing the report, otherwise I need to do this locally and then publish, or establish an On-Prem gateway. I would really love if Snowflake connections did not require an On-Premises gateway

It would be helpful to know if this is technically feasible, particularly when it comes to Snowflake on Azure. There are probably logistical challenges for Snowflake's own VNET/public network endpoints as well as potential challenges around which Azure region hosts the tenant's PowerBI instance vs. Snowflake's Azure region.

Yes, this seems like a no-brainer! Snowflake is a cloud resource as is Power BI. Why would we need a gateway?

Looks like PBI no longer requires the on-premise gateway for Snowflake data sources Check out the PBI blog: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/announcing-enhanced-connectivity-for-snowflake/
