Set slicer default value using measure

It would be great to set a slicer automatically based on a measure value so that is is always ticked and correct even when data is refreshed.

Example use case would be financial year dropdown slicer a user can select a different financial year but the current one is always the default so even when the financial year changes or goes into the new year the measure evaluates what should be selected and defaults it.

If the measure finds nothing that relates to the available values in the list it simply selects nothing

I don't really understand how is it possible that this is note even though of. This just shows the disconection between development and usage of powerBI. There is even a user made slicer that does this very well but then it has other issues.
