Service principal with Power BI and Data Gateway

Currently the Service principal account cannot leverage the On-Premises Data Gateway since it is not a mail-enabled account. This prevents a Power BI Embedded solution to leverage an on-premises SSAS tabular model leveraging the service principal. Instead we need a full-blown power BI pro license for a service account. I would like the capability to leverage the data gateway added to the service principal Power BI authentication.

It is much needed when we automation everything using the SPN, since most of our reports using the gateway using the SPN it's currently not possible. Please add this capability

The spn access for gateway alone is in public preview https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Community-Blog/Data-Gateway-Automation-using-PowerShell-Part-1/ba-p/1117330

To follow this https://devblogs.microsoft.com/premier-developer/secure-access-to-azure-sql-servers-for-power-bi/ and stick with our principle not to use local SQL logins we need this feature ASAP

I take it for granted that a Service Principal should be able to authenticate and retrieve information from Azure SQL Server. How else to handle data sources in various reporting solutions in a secure way and which also handles rotation of the organization's staff? We don't want report credentials to be personal and using old fashion SQL Server Authentication is not a good alternative to this.

This is blocking automation that the API otherwise provides. You allow SPN to use the API and be a workspace Admin. Why not Gateway?

2021, it would still be great to have this capability

Would be really nice to be able to automate data gateway management/admin using a service principal instead of an interactive login.
