SSAS Tabular Connector without Active Directory Sync?

There should be a way to use the SSAS Tabular Connector without AD Sync, e.g. by using CustomData on the connection string.

what's the status for this problem? having a simple option where I can put the domain name instead of the O365 one can dop the job for me. like: replace user@publicdomain.com to: user@localdomain.com as I have the same login names on both O365 and my local AD, this simple find / replace is enough.

With the forced use of AD it is useless for us.

This is resolved with the Map User Name setting in the enterprise gateway. See here: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/tech-tip-thursday-user-principal-name-upn-mapping-in-power-bi/

Our rather large organization is moving away from pure AD in favor of Virtual Directory Services and we've been told that AD will likely be gone within 3 years, so especially for these cloud based services, MS needs to define some alternative authentication methods or we'll also be seeing an end to the use of things like SSAS. 😞

I'm more interested in having the ability to use both upn mappings to effective user and then have customdata rules as well. Right you can you do one or the other.
