The best would be to add: 1. Support to connect on premise SQL Server to Power BI. 2. Need option to auto-refresh the data source & Dashboard on multiple scheduling option. 3. Have PowerBI server locally. The above features are the deciding factors on using Power BI. Without above features, it will be of very little help to our client/organization.

There are more votes for this at this time of commenting (1,165 votes) and it still "under review" compared to SQL Service Analysis Services Cubes (581 votes) and DAX Editor in Power BI Designer (440 votes) which are already "planned". I am along with others in this thread. I will not use this product or recommend it to anyone else unless this item is included. Hopefully it will be much sooner than some of these other items that are not as appealing to me and a large number of others.

This approach will work if you are planning to build one time dashboard. We need option to refresh the data on the dashboard based on schedule (Daily or Monthly) without any manual intervention.

What is the timeline around this? For us Going with PowerBI or another Analytics platform is dependent on this feature.

Hi all, Update: We'll very soon start working on this feature request! As part of enabling refresh for on-premises data sources, we'll support not just SQL server but also other sources such as Oracle, Teradata, etc. Stay tuned for the complete list of supported data sources!

Any rough timeline around this, we are investing on a separate tool. If this is coming out in the next month we may be able to hold off and wait for this functionality. Thanks,

Hrishi, Just curious, is Power Update the tool that you are investing in?
