In the Powe BI Security whitepaper ,in the paragraph of data movement and storage I found this "1. Metadata (tables, columns, measures, calculations, connection strings, etc.) a. Analysis Services on-premises – nothing is stored b. Direct Query – encrypted in Azure BLOB storage. The encryption and access to Azure BLOB keys are stored in a separate location in the Power BI service. c. ETL and pushed data (non-Direct Query, non-Analysis Services on-premises) – not encrypted (clear text) in Azure BLOB storage. The access key to the Azure BLOB is stored in a separate location in the Power BI service " this explain the manner how Power BI service deal with dataset when data is in rest . I need to know what's the difference between on premises data and direct query .
