Revert Workspace Object list UI

The changes made in April 2023 update to the Service has seen the Workspace Object List a list of black and white text, and simple black and white icons for all objects.

This has made it very difficult for user experience (UX) to find what they are looking for almost hiding objects.

The previous version before the update had:

  • different colours to distinguish different object types - This was a very quick indictor of the object and worked really well
  • a tab for Content only or all object types - This was great for most users that only want to consume reports and will never work with Dataset etc.
  • Filters that stayed on even if you leave the page and return - the new filter resets everytime you leave the page and have to filter again and again

Im not asking for a revert exactly but a better UX in finding content you're interesting in very quickly in Workspaces (no just by filtering), the current simple black and white text and icons is not enough for most users, even as an advanced user im wasting time looking for things that was previously very quick to identify

Agree with prior comments. The icons are too similar - they provide no help in separating the object types. And the filter way over on the left side is a poor replacement for the tabs that allowed for selecting which objects to display.

The new UI is a total disaster. The icon is meanless; there are more steps to filter to reports only. When you have many reports, datasets, etc. in one workspace, this UI is very frustrating.

This UI is very frustrating in determining different types of content and has caused confusion with well experienced users and developers trying to navigate this new experience. The icons provide no clear object type distinction or any practical benefit over the old format to justify the changes.

Please get this fixed. A silly idea to have been implemented in the first place.

100% this UX/UI change impacts our whole PBI dev team and the sentiment isn't great! Please either revert or add back in the features OP listed!

I agree with the prior comments that the color made it easy to find what you needed in the workspace. It is much harder now to quickly find what I need and that is frustrating!

Give me back my colors! It is such a pain to look through a workspace now, especially in the lineage view!

Hate the new UI. Huge step backwards in terms of quickly finding/actioning items in a workspace. You're forcing me into a two-step process using small, fiddly controls to replace something that I could immediately visually scan. Horrible.

Bad decision to remove the colors. Filtering down to just see reports or datasets/dataflows is now a pain

Truly a terrible idea. Not sure how this made it out.
