It would be great to introduce the ability to promote measures created in a downstream Power BI semantic model that is DirectQuerying an upstream semantic model back into the upstream model itself. Today, business teams often create valuable measures close to their use cases, but those definitions remain siloed in downstream models and cannot easily be reused across the broader reporting ecosystem. Enabling measure promotion would strengthen semantic model governance, reduce duplicate logic, and make it easier to establish a single source of truth for calculations. Omni Analytics provides a similar concept through its integration with the dbt Semantic Layer, where metrics defined downstream can be elevated and shared more broadly across the organization. Bringing a comparable capability to Power BI would improve collaboration between centralized data teams and report developers while accelerating metric standardization and reuse.
