If a user has gone to the Power BI service, viewed a report and a visual. Selected export to excel on the visual and used the live connection, it creates the connection, but the only information on where that connection is to is the GUID of the underlying semantic model.
Business users often export data to Excel to add ancillary information and enhance it with other datasets, but they lack the ability to incorporate those datasets or changes into the published semantic model.
Recently, I was working with business users, and they had an existing solution that was broken. Without having the Fabric Administrator role access, there was no easy way for me to track down what Report and Visual they exported on, as these users only view the data through Apps and Reports, so having the underlying semantic model GUID was no help.
It would be great if that export to excel could include some more details in the description or command text of the connection like the Workspace/App, Report and Visual
Example enhancement to the commant text to show where it came from
This would help troubleshoot these existing solutions that business users have.
