Power BI Desktop Auto Update

I'm shocked that I'm required to download a new version of Power BI every time you roll out updates. It's 2015, push those updates via the web to my desktop app, how hard can that be?

Also support this idea, but please implement such that it will work in enterprise environments as Google has done with Chrome. The process needs to be designed such that it can work with whitelisting, documented in detail, and continue to use digitally sign installation files.

Yes auto update the desktop (without admin rights), but as business user (non IT) I am not sure about auto updates on custom visuals. Maybe if it only happened for those authored by Microsoft, but not from users or other parties (this would add and run code that has not been reviewed and vetted). Thoughts?

I setup a Ketarin installer in the meantime. If you haven't used it, it might help with this shortcoming. Just google Ketarin. I'll upload the download logic to the repository. It's basically a power user version of Ninite.

Very annoying and frustrating that I have to download a new PowerBI version with each update!!!!! 😞

Amen. This is one of my biggest pet peeves with the program.

For what it's worth, we set up a SCCM package to push the application to our end users. It still requires us to download every month but at least all of our end users aren't stuck doing the install.

I also have several customers asking for WSUS updates for PowerBI Desktop and Gateways: is it something planned ?

Could we have Windows update as a vector for delivering these updates? Having to repackage and deploy this everytime is not viable long term for IT departments given the quick current development cycle.
