Number formatting

The number formatting should be in accordance with excel. The options available in excel for number formatting is quite brilliant. I hope Power BI can somehow integrate custom number formatting in the desktop version. Thank you.

This feature of allowing to customize date formats is really necessary. You can define columns with a specified date format but in some cases such as when using SUMMARIZE the FORMAT cannot be applied to define the date presentation

I would agree with this post. Not being able to use power BI to build and share metrics in a readable format is holding us back from using this tool within our Enterprise 100 company. If the numbers are hard to read (missing commas, scaling factory is not able to be adjusted etc.) there's no way I can use this tool to build effective dashboards to show to my leadership. We'll simply have to use something else. If you match what you have in Excel then we'd be happy.

Confirmed gap: https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Desktop/Number-Format/m-p/324101#M144482. Any update from MS on this?

Ideally the number & date formatting options should be as in Tableau. There can be a default format for any field, not restricted to the selections in the dropdown. At the same time we also need to override the formatting in the specific visuals also

Dates are so frustrating for anyone outside of the Americas. Need formats equivalent to Excel

We cannot format a measure only based on lowest and highest value

It is normally in accounting reports to format revenue for readability eg. $123,456,789.12 as USD millions 123 we can already format the data labels on charts nicely but the functionality does not work for pivot tables. This is annoying.

I'm an accountant and in all of our Excel based reports we prefer to have negative numbers in brackets and in red. This is a fairly common practice. The flexibility of Excel number formatting is great. We need this in Power BI
