What I propose is an evolution to the current banded shading functionality where colors can be set at the top level of the matrix, eg the first field in the Rows data fields, and then apply light and dark shading of that color to the Values. This would increase the visual distinction of groups of data. See the included image for a photoshop mockup of the concept.
So that's the ability to set colors for banding of the background color on the Rows of the Matrix visual, and then the ability to set colors with transparency for the current background color and alternate background color so that we can shade or tint the Row-level color banding.
