Managed Identity for Fabric items

Please make it possible to use Managed Identity with Fabric items like Notebooks and Data Pipeline.

Benefits:

  • No need to handle credentials.
  • The item won't be related to a physical person.

Then, we can give the Managed Identity access to read (and write to) data storage items in other Fabric workspaces, Azure SQL, ADLS, Dataverse, etc.

So that we don't need to rely on human users, and also don't need to handle credentials.

Any update on when this will be released? Seems like basic functionality that should be available for key vault.

Hi, I can just support that...the current use of Fabric Workspace Managed Identity is super super limited. You cannot use it in Key Vault, you cannot use it in python code (using DefaultCredential or any other method) eg for AIProjectClient classes etc. Pls elaborate on the current roadmap for this. Managing service principals instead is not working at scale. I need to agree to the previous comment. For productive use with OpenAI or other endpoints, fabric lacks core functionality. Please advise how to proceed or how the roadmap is for managed identity support respectively. Thank you!

If microsoft could make that workspace id would be the owner of fabric items and use managed id to connect to external sources (outside of fabric), that would be great. They have the tech, I dont understand why they dont implement this....
