Managed Identity for Azure SQL DB Connection via PowerBI Gateway
Dear Microsoft PowerBI Product Manager,
We are using PowerBI Gateway to connect to SQL Databases which are hosted OnPrim as well as Cloud.
As we have not exposed our Azure SQL Instances on Internet, we have to use PowerBI Gateway to make it available for PowerBI.
Microsoft Azure Identity team did a fantastic job by introducing Managed Identity to avoid usage of username and password in plain text. We are expecting that the Managed Identity concept should get extended to PowerBI Gateway as well to make Connections with Azure Data sources.
Currently, even though we have all applications hosted on the cloud using Managed Identities, still we have to create UserID and Password for PowerBI Report access. This operation is defeating the sole purpose of Managed Identity.
I'm requesting PowerBI Product Manager to take this on priority to allow us to rip the benefits of Managed Identity.
