Introduction of OneLake folders for Fabric workspace

Introduction of OneLake folders for Fabric workspace

Situation: We want to store structured and unstructured raw files in OneLake. A data pipeline will pick up those files and process them (e.g. create lakehouse tables from the file content). The only option that Fabric offers to store files are lakehouses. For a simple file storage a lakehouse brings a lot of overhead and it is not intuitive to go to a lakehouse to look for files.

Suggestion: Fabric should provide the possibility to store files in workspace folders. Each workspace should per default provide a root folder which can be used to store files without the need of having a lakehouse.

I really like this. I would really like to drop files into the lake without having to add the house over them and setup a resource. It would also make OneLake File Explorer more useful. You could expose folders and control access to lake folders for other members of the organization like a traditional file structure in Windows Explorer but for the data estate.
