Get data from Hyperion Essbase

We are looking for a data visualization tool for our company. The top requirement I have is that I can connect to our Essbase information. Right now the only way to do so is through the Smartview add-in for Excel, which means someone manually has to retrieve it and send it out. Whichever visualization tool can connect to the data so I can have automated visualizations that users can access the latest data rather than have a person manually update will have my recommendation to management. Right now the Tableau rep says it can be done.

Question for Microsoft: Has there been any progress on true integration with Essbase Cubes and Power BI? Any ETA when this will happen?

I am the manager of BI Data Integration at HCA, and we have a need for Power BI integration with Essbase as well. For example, we do this today with Tableau which supports pulling Essbase data as well as a drag and drop of structure used to build a canned report that can be distributed out to a user base. I do not think Power BI will work with anything but XMLA, and while that's ok, it is not as quick to develop as Tableau.

We have a need to understand two large Essbase cubes as we intended to migrate the underlying data next year. I am the technical lead on a data mart project at HCA where we would utilize this enhancement early to mid- 2017. There is a large Hyperion Essbase community at quite a few large corporations, I know, this would be a big help. The cubes I have seen in Finance revolve around Cost, Sales, Revenue, Profit that I am aware of also a big presence in Purchasing / Logistics.
