Granular Data Sharing for Real-Time Fabric Dashboards

Enable dashboard-level sharing in Microsoft Fabric without requiring access to the underlying raw datasets or Kusto clusters.

Problem:
Currently, when sharing summarized views in ADX dashboards, recipients must have full backend data access—even if they only need aggregated insights. This creates security and compliance challenges, especially for external auditors or partners.

Proposed Capability:

  • Allow granting view-only access to dashboards without exposing underlying data sources.
  • Support scenarios where filtered or aggregated views can be shared securely without creating separate datasets or dashboards.
  • Maintain feature parity with ADX dashboards while adding this granular sharing option.

Benefits:

  • Simplifies compliance and audit workflows.
  • Reduces complexity of creating filtered datasets for each scenario.
  • Aligns with strategic goals for secure data collaboration.

Example Use Cases:

  • External auditors e.g., teams outside the company needing targeted views.
  • Partners requiring limited insights without full data access.

We support this through a feature called "dashboard permissions" documented here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/real-time-intelligence/dashboard-permissions
