Feature Request: Subscription Ownership Transfer & Service Principal Support

Feature Request: Subscription Ownership Transfer & Service Principal Support

Problem Statement

Power BI subscriptions are currently tied to the identity of the user who created them. When that user is deactivated or leaves the organisation, their subscriptions stop functioning with no way to recover or transfer ownership.
This is a significant operational risk for enterprise tenants, particularly those using PPU licensing.

What Is Missing

Unlike other Power BI objects, such as connections and gateways, subscriptions have no ability to:

Transfer ownership to another user or account
Be owned by a Service Principal or Managed Identity
Be managed or "taken over" by a Power BI admin
Have access managed separately from the creating user

Impact

Subscriptions silently break when users are deactivated
Admins have no visibility or control over orphaned subscriptions
Organisations are forced to use workaround shared service accounts, creating security and compliance concerns

Requested Improvements

Ownership Transfer — Allow Power BI admins to reassign subscription ownership, similar to dataset ownership transfer
Service Principal Support — Allow subscriptions to be created and owned by a Service Principal or Managed Identity
Admin Override — Give tenant admins the ability to view, edit, and take ownership of all subscriptions in the tenant
Access Management — Allow subscriptions to be managed with shared access, similar to connections

Why This Matters
Enterprises need stable, governable objects. Subscriptions are a critical delivery mechanism for business reporting, and their current user-dependency creates unnecessary fragility and administrative overhead.
