Feature Request: Allow Dynamic Adjustment of Task Name Width in Microsoft Gantt Visual

Idea:

I am a regular user of the Microsoft Gantt visual for project tracking and have encountered a usability challenge that I believe could enhance the experience for many users.

Problem: Currently, the width of the "Task Name" column is static and manually adjustable. For projects with long task names, increasing the width to display the full name results in the timeline view becoming scrollable, which disrupts workflow and visual efficiency. This limitation affects users who need to balance task name visibility with an uncluttered timeline view.

Proposed Solution: Introduce a feature that allows users to dynamically adjust the "Task Name" column width based on their preferences or requirements. This could include:

  • An option to enable auto-adjustment based on the longest task name.

  • A toggle to allow truncation with hover-over tooltips for the full task name.

  • A drag-and-resize functionality that minimizes interference with the timeline view.

This enhancement would give users the flexibility to customize their Gantt chart layout without compromising either the clarity of task names or the timeline's usability.

Value Addition: Implementing this feature would significantly improve user productivity and satisfaction by addressing the needs of different user groups:

  • Users who want to see full task names without truncation.

  • Users who prioritize an unobstructed timeline view.

Thank you for considering this suggestion! I’m excited to hear the community’s thoughts and to see how this idea could improve our Power BI experience.
