Epic idea: Better sort and filter tabular experiences

Matrix visuals could significantly enhance the user experience by emulating Excel's intuitive sorting, searching, and filtering capabilities, even for hierarchical columns. This idea would the current limitation in Power BI's matrix visuals, which lack a comparable experience to Excel's established standard for data manipulation.

This would help me a great deal, I field a lot of questions from less technical users about why months are in a random order, when they've applied a sort in a previous session

I would love to use this when showing Top N, I can sort by the value, and prevent others from sorting.

While I've found that PowerBI is a very powerful tool that´s leaping forward towards being the N°1 reporting tool, developers still have to keep in mind that the final user *can barely* use PowerPoint (don´t get me started with Excel), and final reports need to be babyproofed. Allowing to report static visuals is extremely useful with the mitten-hands-end-user (we all know people like that) and this request can be extended to every visual.

Definitely needed. Thank you.

Insert a box in front of the visual(s). Make the box invisible - zero width line and no fill. In order to hide the sorting arrows I place another small box on top with the same color as the column header. This is a workaround until that option becomes properly available.

turning off interactive sorting is a basic need. it should be included

Doing work around to add a blanket over the sort button is not ideal solution. Being able to choose whether to have on or off should be a basic feature.

We do work for the government with specific legal requirements and this functionality will get Power Bi removed as the analytics tool of choice. It is a basic functionality and it is jeopardising the future of the product in this entire sector.

Not just in a dashboard, but also in reports. The designer should be able to setup the visual so as to disable the sorting by column

This goes for the matrix visual, as well!
