Epic idea: Apply filter selections automatically

Imagine a world where report creators can automatically apply slicer and filter selections based on specific logic, revolutionizing data analysis and user experience. This innovative approach eliminates any need for complex workarounds, optimizes slicer functionality, and paves the way for more efficient and effective data reporting.

I think it is a very important function that the slicer recognizes the user's set conditions and sets the set values without changing the data when various users access it. In this kind of report, the upper management wants to check the results right away without clicking, but Power BI has other good functions, but it is unfortunate that there is no function to link the condition values for the slicer.

Hi Miguel I am sure if you survey users this is the #1 need of Power BI users. I likened this to going on a travel website and the default dates are 1/1/1990. There is no option in Power BI to set default slicers. What this means is the reports are permanently unprofessional and out of date. I am always curious, What can we do to get this to customers?

I have not ever created a report for a customer that hasn't requested this. The reason this idea does not have a lot more votes is because each person describes this in their own way so there are multiple ideas that mean the same.

The time to implement this was 2015. How is the product even usable for anyone without the ability to default apply slicers?

I also want to add that there was a very similar issue with an equivalent # of votes that was previously mergerd.

This is the #1 requested feature. This is what Power BI users are asking for!!

There should be easy, out-of-box solution to build report that show last xx days filter applied by default allowing end user to change as needed

I've been a Power BI Developer for 7 years: we needed it then and we still need it. I wonder if anyone at MS ever looks at these Ideas pages or whether they're just a way to channel people's frustrations. Call me an old cynic..... 🙂

Ain't that currently called "bookmarks"?? Are we really making Microsoft work on a feature (not an epic IMO) that already exist in a certain form in the current product? Come on guys, you can do better. There are broken or not working things right now that needs fixin'. Let's not clutter their backlog with already working features that only need some improvement.

@FireFighter1017 No it is not the same thing!! Bookmarks are able to store specific filtering but not a logic filtering. If I crreate a bookmark filtered for July-2025 it will always be July 2024. What we want is the following let's imagine you have a financial reporting and you want to always point to previous month. So if I enter the report today it will show me July-2025 but if I enter in september it will show me Aug-2025, but then of course if the user wants to change that default he can still change the slicer manually. And this is just one example with one rule, and there are workarounds on most of the cases but non of them are great. There is a guy that created a custom slicer visual that does this PERFECTLY but then the slicer has a lot of other issues.

@FireFighter1017 as per @Quebas_2 you are missing the point. You may not want it but there's a reason why 4,500 people have voted for this. And it still says 'Need Votes'... They literally never action these 'Ideas', they only provide new tools to large corporates who pay them loads of money, i.e. Fabric tools. There's almost no one (judging by the output) working on Power BI these days. To be clear, we want to be able to programmatically (i.e. apply a measure calculation) change the values listed in a slicer prior to display. It's not just about date slicers either. Bookmarks are completely different. This topic is about slicers.
