Epic idea: Apply filter selections automatically

Imagine a world where report creators can automatically apply slicer and filter selections based on specific logic, revolutionizing data analysis and user experience. This innovative approach eliminates any need for complex workarounds, optimizes slicer functionality, and paves the way for more efficient and effective data reporting.

I share the need in many of the use-cases in the comments below. One of my recent scenarios involved defaulting a report to "my" rows (based on Power BI logon credentials) while allowing users to look at any other user's data as well. Row-level security allows me to restrict to my rows, but not easily look beyond that. I would like a slicer than has the ability to add a default based on a DAX expression against a user table (which I build, maintain and load) and filter an email column in that table by USERPRINCIPALNAME for the logged on user. Again, this is simply a default. Users should be able to select any row from the user table in the slicer besides the default value referring to themselves.

We need to be able to dynamically set the defaults of ALL slicers (often based on who is logged in) We need to be able to dynamically set the default of date slicer to a value (not necessarily current date - but some calculated date)

Quite frankly - its ludicrous that something this important in BI is not out of the box option from day 1 And this was asked for 2018 - and its still not possible???

This is a much needed functionality. Our company is relatively new to Power BI with many reports ranging from internal use to client data and this request has come up more than enough to be deemed necessary. Like many of the comments suggests, the date slicer should default to the latest month (max) with no need for manual selection, but still be able to be configured by the user if needed.

This seems like such a simple ask...

This should have been out of the box... This feature was amazing in SSRS, why didn't they bring it to PBI is mind boggling...

In date slicer we should be able to set a default date dynamically, e.g today, yesterday

As many users have commented, being able to set the default value for filters dynamically would be great. For example, date formats could let you set "greater than 12 months ago" and "less than 11 months ago". Or number formats could filter by "greater than" and "less than". Text formats could do the normal "starts with" or "contains". Etc.. This helps to define filters to be updated automatically as time passes and more data enters into the dataset that can't be identified/named during the development of the model.
