Enable native Power BI integration with Databricks Metric View

Today, Power BI semantic models (datasets/DAX) work well when Power BI is the only BI tool. However, many organizations use Databricks as their lakehouse and need consistent, governed metrics across multiple BI tools, ML pipelines, and APIs. When the semantic layer lives only in Power BI:

  • Logic is duplicated across datasets and tools

  • Governance/security (RLS/CLS, masking) is fragmented

  • Schema changes in Databricks break reports

  • ML/AI pipelines cannot reuse business logic from Power BI models

Proposal: Enable native Power BI integration with Databricks Metric View

This feature is highly required to bridge the gap between databricks metric views and power bi.

Looks like this is what everyone wants, Is this a technical limitation or bureaucratic? 🙂

This would be a great feature for us

Completely agree with the rest of the comments, we use Databricks and are heavy power bi users too - we want to define metrics once in a common semantic layer that can be shared across multiple uses and tools.

Tabular Editor has been working on this 'semantic bridge' which supports the translation of the UC Metric Views' YAML definitions to a tabular model. It's still early but could be a path forward. Hopefully Microsoft will adopt something like this as a native feature of Fabric.

I also understand its on Databricks' roadmap to create a native Power BI integration for UC Metrics, I'm trying to find out more details from my account exec.

@robwalks Alright. I asked my databricks exec about the possible roadmap too. I understand it takes two to tango but especially for customers using Azure Databricks in combination with Power BI it would be strange not actively work on a native solution for this.
