Easily Empty PBIX (or create PBIT template) for archiving/versioning

I've been iteratively working on a report for a few weeks, and now I have a dozen PBIX files, each 300 MB. I don't want to lose the development history, but I don't want to archive 3.5 GB of files. I've been opening old PBIX files and saving as a template. I don't care about the data contained, just everything else--I can always refresh the data later if I need to. This process works, but is slow. It would be nice to be able to right-click on a PBIX from Windows Explorer and be able to strip out the data or Save As a template file without having to wait for Power BI to load.
