Near the end of last year we upgrade visuals to use conditional formatting just like tables. This means you can take advantage of "By field" formatting to do exactly what this idea requested. Create a field in your model assigning colors, and then use the conditional formatting dialog for colors to format it. Here's the original announcement post.
