Database mirroring - private network support

We need private network support for Database mirroring when connecting to Azure SQL. Our security team has rejected our request to test with Fabric and database mirroring due to the requirement to allow public or all azure network access to the databases.

  • Yes, it's absurd this feature was not built before it even was released into preview. Not being able to use private networks is a huge security risk and is going to force many enterprises to look elsewhere.

  • MS Fabric has so many wonderful features. The database mirroring would be a wonderful addition to assist our internal customers. Unfortunately, due to private endpoint not a possibility we cannot provide this option.

  • 100% agree that it's a non-starter to use this feature without private network support, especially for enterprise customers. Please Fabric team, let us know when this will be on the roadmap.

  • This needs to be higher up. My organization uses Databricks as its system of reference and this would be an ideal solution. Unfortunately, because of our private network and firewall setup, we aren't even able to test this.

Mirroring supporting Azure SQL DB behind a firewall is currently available via OPDG and VNet data gateway.

  • Its a shame that Virtual Data Gateway costs a minimum of $8K a month for an F64 capacity. I suppose the OPDG is the way forward as it can run on an F2 capacity.
