Create calculated measures on top of a live SSAS connection

Creating a live connection to SSAS MD or Tabular is working just fine. However, it would be very beneficial to have the ability to create new calculated measures (in MDX). Just like we can create our own calculated measures when writing an MDX query for a SSRS dataset.

Hi everyone! I'm really excited to announce that you can now create calculated measures on top of a live SSAS connection! The measures are stored in your report definition and sent along with the queries to your model. You can read more information about that here https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-may-feature-summary/. We're planning support for quick measures in this mode soon, and also looking at expanding this further based on your feedback: - If you want calculated columns/tables you can vote here https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/19140907-create-calculated-columns-when-using-ssas-live-con - If you want support over SSAS Multidimensional, vote here https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/19140997-calculated-measures-when-live-connected-to-mdx-cub Thanks everyone!

It would be highly beneficial if we could write our own Calculated fields in DAX directly in the model or "on top" of a current SSAS Tabular which we can connect to

Also for OLAP cubes.

We are using an SSAS Cube and/or Tabular model as a data source and we need to create calculations when in Live/DirectQuery mode in Power BI.

Every single reporting tool that connects to SSAS provides this functionality ( Excel, SSRS, Pyramid, etc....) we really need this feature.

Must have feature. It's possible in SSRS and in Excel (using PivotTable extensions), so PBI Desktop shouldn't be that hard.

Customers have very specific reporting needs and therefore it is essential to be able to create calculated measures in MDX. If we can have this feature in Power BI , it will make us and a lot of potential customers very very very very happy 🙂

DW - Architecture and Multidimensional Model We know that data warehousing is a collection of methods, techniques and tools which is used to support knowledge workers such as senior managers, directors, managers, and business analysts to conduct data analyses that help with performing decision-making processes and improving information resources. Fundamentally, data warehouse is the secured place for the historical data where data is never deleted and data updates are normally carried out when data warehouses are offline. http://www.sql-datatools.com/2015/09/data-warehouse-architecture-and-multidimensional-model.html

Our users will very much appreciate having that feature.

This is really a show stopper for a full scale implementation of PowerBI at the moment.
