Couldn't Load the data for this visual

Hi all, I'm getting the ole chestnut 'couldn't load the data for this visual' in the following circumstance: I have published a Power BI Desktop File to the Power BI service with a connection to two datasources (SalesForce and Excel - via a SharePoint Folder). The report publishes successfully and after supplying the credentials in the service it connects and refreshes successfully. If I then share this either via a shared dashboard or content pack it throws the 'couldn't load the data for this visual' error for those I've shared it with. This seems to relate to the two data sources within the dataset as there is no issue if sharing only the SalesForce data or Excel data on it's own. I also found if I 'make a copy' of the dashboard when imported via a content pack this will then render successfully in the copied version. The original version then displays correctly as well - but only well the connection is active (i.e. I've loaded the copy first). Any insight or additional thoughts are appreciated. Cheers, Cody

This is happening to our clients as well and started happening today - may be some server problems with Power BI this morning. I will be creating a support ticket but wanted you to know you're not alone. Recommend you also create a support ticket with the specific error dialog - mine had some GUIDs in it (Activity ID, Correlation ID, etc) that might help the support team troubleshoot.

'Charles, sorry didn't see your response. The error was received when trying to open a live-pinned report on an out-of-tenant shared dashboard. I see you've marked Completed which I think is fine - as Cody mentioned, his issue was different and my issues issues stopped happening later that day. We've seen other stability issues with out-of-tenant dashboards before (blank pages when opening reports, refresh errors, etc). My hunch is they are load-related on the Power BI infrastructure side. I will be sure to open a new ticket if we see this again. -C

More specifically on the error - the technical details are just the generic - Couldn’t retrieve the data for this visual. Please try again later.

Hi Caleb, In my case, this turned out to be an oversight on my part... I had gone poking around in the new Role Level Security in my Power BI Desktop file before publishing and created an empty 'New Role' which noone had access to. Both adding the users to the role in the dataset in the Power BI Service and removing the role / re-publishing the file has allowed sharing without issue. May be you'll have the same simple fix - obviously a more descriptive error would have pointed me in the right direction!
