Combine multiple Gateway in single dataset/report

Currently, all data sources in a Power BI report/dataset, that are not on cloud, must be available in a single Gateway to work. But if the datasources in the report are coming from different Gateways, that doesn't work. It is not possible to combine them for refresh. Say I have a Sales Report. It connects to DB A, B and C. DB A and B is configured in Gateway X DB C is configured in Gateway Y. The report creator have been provided access to all of them. Now if I try to configure data refresh in PBI Service, it will not work. As none of the Gateway has all 3 DBs. The user can’t connect to DB A and B through Gateway X, and DB C through Gateway Y. We have to configure all the DBs in the same Gateway to work. Since in our organization, we have many datasources, and different teams control the access to them, it becomes troublesome, and lots of repetitive data sources has to be created that causes a governance and management headache.

We miss such a functionality, for example when doing migration projects in an incremental fashion.

We miss this functionality. For security reasons even to connect to Azure SQL we use a gateway and we can not keep PII data in the cloud, so we want to combine Analytical data from DWH with a PII data from OLTP on-prem. For this we need use two separate gateways.

We need this functionality too because some of our online resources require the VNET gateway while the on prem source requires the regular on Prem gateway. So currently we can't have both sources in the same semantic model.

We need the ability to refresh reports using multiple gateways too. Thankyou

It would indeed be really useful if Power BI could support data sources from different Gateways in a single report or dataset.

This limitation of needing all data sources to be available through a single Gateway can create significant challenges, especially in organizations with diverse data environments and multiple teams managing access.

Allowing connections through multiple Gateways would streamline data governance, reduce redundancy, and simplify management. This enhancement could greatly improve efficiency and collaboration across teams, making data integration more seamless and less cumbersome.
