I realised that putting already aggregated data into powerBi makes it run faster but it has some drawbacks. With the way the data is structured I needed the values in a matrix to be the max per a certain category however the row/column totals now automatically take the max of the row/column when what I actually want to see is the sum of the maxes of the row/column.
This would remove the need to recode the data that goes in or rely heavily on data manipulation for something that would be a quick fix.
