Allow user to modify applied steps in a Dataflow without having to wait for the logic refresh

Each time an applied step is added or modified in a Gen2 dataflow the entire project logic is being refreshed.

This absolutely kills productivity.

For example, if I have 20 fields that I need to rename, my project forces me to wait between each rename step to refresh its data.

If it takes a minute to refresh (which is not atypical), there goes 20 minutes of my day - for a step that should take me about a minute.

Please provide some kind of control to allow the user to make this manual.   
This would be analogous to Excel's 'Calculation Options > Manual'  feature
