Allow in-place data model refresh in embedded PowerBI

Today it is possible only to have a static data model or direct query. Would really like to have the mainstream refreshable data model available within the embedded offering. Would like to be able to control the refresh via API.

Alternatively, I would settle for an SSAS connector via gateway.

'+3 I honestly cannot believe MS shipped PowerBI embedded without a data refresh capability. What use case is PowerBI actually fulfilling without a data refresh, I'm stunned.

This is absolutely a #1 Mission Critical requirement. The Power BI team should issue a Stop-the-Presses directive until this feature is released and supported.

I have a colleague suggesting Apache Zeppelin as an alternative to Power BI embedded for external reporting. That would bring a whole lot of new complexity but if I could schedule refresh on an embedded pbix model I wouldn't have even brought it up.

It seems crazy... is this really the case? Really? Without the capability to schedule refreshed imports to Azure, Power BI Embedded is only usable if: a) your data is static, or b) you use direct query exclusively and accept all its limitations I'd guess that <2% of data sets are static, and that <15% of implementations use Direct Query only. Really limits the eligibility of embedded. Is there a workaround to schedule imports of a refreshed pbix file to Azure for use with Power BI Embedded?

An update from the Power BI team on the roadmap for Power BI Embedded with respect to this feature would be greatly appreciated!!!

Wao! This is a stunner... we surely need this. Must have for any production quality system

I've been in contact with the PowerBI team and they said data refresh is scheduled for Q2 of 2017.

I agree with the group that Power BI Embedded is basically unusable without a means to refresh the imported data programmatically or at least on a scheduled basis. It makes no sense in a case such as monthly or even weekly KPIs to use resources to do Direct Query when the data is not changing.

This is critical. No way for us to use Power BI embedded without an ability to refresh the data! Everything else about the 'embedded' is pretty solid, good stuff really. Just cannot use without the automatic refresh. The Direct Query is not an option as it's too restricted (cannot use multiple data sources, cannot use Azure Tables, etc)
