Allow Direct Workspace Selection When Exporting SharePoint Lists to Power BI

We have an option in SharePoint lists to Export to Power BI. When we click this option, it takes us to the OneLake Catalog in the Power BI service, where it then prompts us to select a workspace to generate the semantic model for the SharePoint list data.

But why do we need to go through the OneLake Catalog first? Why can’t we directly select our target workspace where we want the data model to reside?

When I asked Microsoft engineers, they mentioned this behavior is by design, but since it requires an additional click through OneLake Catalog, wouldn’t it be more efficient if the pop-up directly allowed us to select the target workspace? And Microsoft mentioned that even at the tenant level we cannot control or disable this option.

Additionally, in cases where we don’t want to use any Fabric items in our tenant but only Power BI workspaces, this OneLake Catalog step may confuse users.
