A new Data Days event is coming soon! This time we’re going bigger than ever. Fabric, Power BI, SQL, AI and more. Don't miss out.

Add Search Functionality to Power Query "Queries" Pane

See Attached Image.

Quick Overview
When working on large Power BI models, it’s easy to end up with 50, 100, or even more queries in Power Query. These come from all kinds of sources and transformation steps, and the list gets long fast. At that point, just finding the query you’re looking for becomes a real hassle.

Right now, the only option is to scroll through the list manually—and in big projects, that’s just not practical.

Why This Would Help

  • Models grow quickly: staging queries, reference layers, intermediate logic—all stack up fast.

  • Scrolling through a huge list every time to find a query breaks flow and wastes time.

  • A simple search/filter option in Queries Pane would make it way easier to work efficiently, especially under deadlines.

The Ask
Would love to see a search bar added at the top of the Queries pane in Power Query. Just something lightweight to help quickly jump to a query by name. That’s it—nothing to do with loading data or transformations, purely about improving authoring experience.

I've included a screenshot as well to help visualize the idea.

It is very simple a search box in the query editor. In our case, we have more than 30 data sources and we need to find them easily. A search box on the top of the queries will be great.

Same here. 90 queries in one file. Hard to find anything now...

Agreed on query search box for repeated query steps! For example- if I have multiple queries that had removed "Bay" from my city column, but I need to edit those queries to only transform "San Francisco Bay Area" to be "San Francisco", it would be so handy to be able to replace all of those queries simultaneously like in Excel's "find and replace" function

Just what I realice in a very complex Project with multiple queryes

Currently, the usability of the Query Editor interface is low. It is not possible to collapse all the folders in the tree at once. No filter or search in the tree. This is important when there are many data sources (10+) in a report.

Like Jessica Williams said: please throw in this search across queries a replace function to mass update sources, or field names.

This is a necessary QOL feature. Also needs to be added to the query dependency view too.

Hi,

It would be great if you'll add an option to search for a specific query, by typing its name in a search box.

Thanks,

Gal

The ability to search and find a table or a field in the modeling area is great and very helpful when having lots of tables and fields. It would be super great to have some kind of search in the power query area (right near to the Queries list. for example : * simple textual search for just a table/function/parameter from the long list. * advanced search will enable a search by field name and will show only the queries how has the searched field in any of its steps. would be a huge time saving when dealing with models with many stagings/tables/functions/parameters.

Would it be possible to add a search bar to the Power Query Queries pane?
