Ability to compare two pbix files / reports

Ability to compare two reports, for e.g. if I want to review somebody’s work that the only thing he has changed is only a bug fix, there is no way to compare the old report vs the new one (like a xml compare / json etc. compare of those two files). This is to ensure that I haven’t changed anything more than needed.

I would also support this feature mainly to review changes done by other person. Or if PowerBI can show just the difference ...it would be useful too.

The Power BI ecosystem needs a version control mechanism. Having a tool that can show the differences between PBIXs will move us closer in that direction.

We have had issues with people changing the attributes and its hard to see what was updated.

This would be a big help so you can use normal development tools like source control and diff's. Hard to scale up report development without this.

I wonder why this idea hasn't received more votes yet. How do other people deal with missing version control, change tracking, and bulk editing options for Power BI in an enterprise BI context? Is there a solution to these problems that I just don't know about? I'd appreciate any comments which describe solutions for those issues.

I see this is a very old post. Does anyone know if there are any difference compare tools available for comparing powerbi reports? Now that we are in 2020?

The ability to merge Data sets created early in development phase would be a great addition. We had two teams working on Data sets from Dynamics CRM and SQL Server respectively. There are different reports built using these independently (Power bi Service as Data source). Now there might be situations where we would like to see Reports based on these two data-sets together. The Only option currently seems like recreating one of the model in another pbix file. A Pure Merge and compare experience would be really helpful.

If we have multiple reports of power bi, can we merge all reports in new power bi report? Having same dataset or different.

while creating the group, here should be an option to rename it. There should be an option to merge the Power BI files so that multiple users can work on the same report in a different tab and later on report can be merged into a single report. One more Feature, we can have in Power Bi that is Master page like in .net
