KHT Data Contract Toolkit is a Microsoft Fabric–native governance extension that operationalizes Data Contracts as executable controls inside the Fabric runtime.
Instead of treating governance as documentation or monitoring, the toolkit enforces it directly within ingestion pipelines.
It provides:
Centralized Data Contracts as Code
Schema, quality rules, ownership, certification level, and intended use are defined in version-controlled contracts stored in Git.
Shift-Left Data Quality Enforcement
Contracts are executed automatically during ingestion using Fabric notebooks and Spark-based validation.
Deterministic Pipeline Control
Validation outcomes control pipeline behavior: fail, warn, or quarantine.
Lakehouse-Native Quarantine
Invalid records are automatically isolated in structured Delta tables with full traceability.
Governance Hub UI
A centralized dashboard for viewing datasets, contract versions, validation history, ownership, and audit evidence.
The solution is built entirely on Fabric primitives:
OneLake, Delta Lake, Spark notebooks, Data Pipelines, and the Fabric Workload SDK — with no external SaaS dependencies.
Microsoft Fabric provides strong governance building blocks such as:
Delta Lake schema enforcement
RLS / CLS
Sensitivity labels
Microsoft Purview
However, these capabilities are fragmented and lack a central Data Contract layer to coordinate quality, ownership, security context, and auditability end to end.
As a result, small teams in regulated environments face:
Manual Audit Overhead
Governance evidence is scattered across workspaces, pipelines, notebooks, and Purview. Audit preparation often takes 2–3 hours per request.
Fragmented Validation Logic
Quality rules are embedded in ETL code and SQL views, making them difficult to audit, reuse, or standardize.
Late Error Detection
Data quality issues are discovered after pipelines complete, wasting compute and impacting downstream systems.
Unclear Accountability
Ownership and responsibility are ambiguous during incidents or compliance reviews.
The toolkit transforms governance from reactive monitoring to proactive, execution-layer enforcement.
The workload is designed for small data teams (under 10 people) operating in regulated industries where governance is mandatory.
Primary personas:
Data Platform Leads
Need centralized, audit-ready visibility and enforceable governance without scaling headcount.
Data Engineers
Require reusable, shift-left validation guardrails that prevent non-compliant data from entering production.
Data Stewards / Compliance Teams
Need traceable, system-generated evidence for regulatory reporting and governance assurance.
Target industries include:
Financial Services, Banking, Securities, Healthcare, and Government.
