since some days whenever I use the searchBox of the formatting panel to find a setting, my custom visual receives an update from powerbi. It did not work like this before.
Is there a way to know if this update comes from using the searchBox?
I couldn't reproduce your probelm.
How did you get this custom visual, by app store or import a visual from a file? If you get custom visual from App store, Power BI may update the visual automaticlly and without noticification.
Where is the noticification you get, in desktop or service?
Can you show me a screenshot of the noticification in your Power BI?
If you want to know whether the update comes from using searchBox, you can try to use the custom visual without using searchBox in this vsiual. Then you can check whether it will show the noticification.
Will other custom visual show the update noticification if you use SearchBox in that visual?

Rico Zhou

this is a developer visual. By update I mean the function powerbi calls on the visual when it receives new data or setting.
