We are looking for writeback(writing data into database from Power BI) functionality.
Any inputs on achieving this using Power BI SDK/API.

Power on is capable of doing that.I have seen people using it for write -back.You need to spend additional cost for power on license.

Writeback to Tabluar with both Import mode and Direct query is fully support with Visual Planning from Power ON. Thers is a great video here to get you started. http://poweronbi.com/powerbi-visual-planning/

There's no any feature in Power BI that can write back to a database. The only apporach would be embedding PowerApps within a PowerBI dashboard, and that PowerApp can write back to the database.
