Dear Team,
For student performance, I have data with Ranking values. The lower Rank value denotes better or improvement in performance and the Higher rank value denotes lower or poor performance. If we use Rank values for the Y axis for a Line chart, the lower values show declining but actually, I wanted to show improvement (when the value is lower). In other words, how we can show the reverse effect (lower rank, it's better)?
NOTE: I have used the DENSE RANKing function in my SQL query and the result set includes Ranking value. I am using this resultset in Power BI as a data source. (Please advise about how to achieve dense ranking in Power BI as well)
Your time and support are very much appreciated.
Regards,
Zaku
Hi @Zaku ,
If you want to display the performance of students in the chart, why don't you use the performance value to show the students' good or bad performance?
According to my knowledge, Power BI does not support showing a linear chart with a lower value showing improvement compared to a higher value currently. Please consider about use the performance value for the Y axis and use the rank value as tooltips. Tooltips are an elegant way of providing more contextual information and detail to data points on a visual.
Besides, you can use the RANKX() function to achieve dense ranking in Power BI.
Note: Choose Dense in tiles parameter.

Hi Jianbo.
Thank you for the response. Yes, we can show % age and show Ranks in the tooltip. But in that case, the user needs to mouse hover to see the student's rank. I believe, there must be some options (way of visual) to denote ranking. I will do some more research and see if can find any resolution.
