Hi friends,
We want to automate the management of gateway and connection details for PowerBI datasets, specifically those using Snowflake via VNet data gateways. Our aim is to programmatically bind datasets to gateways, update connection details, or manage gateway mappings using the Power BI REST API.
We’ve used the documented REST endpoints:
For datasets connected to Snowflake via VNet gateway, the Power BI REST API endpoints either return empty results or do not expose the VNet gateway objects at all. Both the official documentation and community posts indicate that REST API support is limited to classic on-premises data gateways—VNet gateways are not supported for listing, binding, updating, or discovery via API. All management of VNet gateways, including binding datasets and updating connection details, appears to be restricted to the Power BI Service UI or Power Platform admin center.
Is there any way to automate VNet gateway binding or connection management for datasets via API? Are there any workarounds, preview features, or roadmap items that would allow REST API management of VNet gateway connections?
Any recommendations or insights would be greatly appreciated! Thank you 🙂
I don't think that is even on the roadmap.

Is there any other workaround outside of APIs? Is there any way to use other methods (like XML perhaps) to update the connection?
