Trying to connect to Fabric Data from SQL endpoint in Excel

Hey all,

So Im trying to connect to my Fabric Data in a lakehouse from Excel using the "Connect to SQL Database" and then putting in the connection string of the lakehouse.

A few problems:

-When I connect on my personal computer it says "Exceeded Fabric Capacity" but havent ran anything recently this month. Not sure if this is a persmissions issue.

-I set up a virtual network to try and connect on work computer that is behind a VPN. Used the personal data gateway march update but still cannot connect to my lakehouse.

When I do try and setup a virtual network data gateway in Fabric I get this error:
Unable to validate the subnet permissions required to join the subnet to the Microsoft Power Platform service. Error details: Request rejected with status 400 and message {"error":{"code":"BadRequestFormat","message":"The ObjectID must provided for groups expansion."}}

Going to guess this is also a permissions problem.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

    I too tried to connect to an SQL Endpoint of a Lakehouse from Excel and got the same error message. I have a trial subscription and I believe the same with you as well.

    One option is to connect to the Semantic Model if you are fine with that:

      Hey!

      Thanks for pointing that out. I did try and connect via the semantic PowerBI models but still got nothing. I think because we are behind a VPN we need a VNET Data Gateway but I get that error above when trying to make a VNET Data Gateway in Fabric:
      Unable to validate the subnet permissions required to join the subnet to the Microsoft Power Platform service. Error details: Request rejected with status 400 and message {"error":{"code":"BadRequestFormat","message":"The ObjectID must provided for groups expansion."}}

      Thank you again! Let me know if you know anything about the error.

    BenBernanke do you have any additional insights on this issue?

    We are facing the same issue and I don't think it firewall, permissions of capacity limit issue.

    Because I can connect to the SQL endpoint with Azure Data Studio while connected to the same VPN and home network.

    Also I have this issue both with the trail and paid capacity of which I am the admin so permissions doesn't seem likely to me.

    And I have verified that our capacity has not been fully used.

    Anything you can share would be helpful.
