Star Schema - Should I reference or duplicate?

Hi All,

I am starting a Star schema data model from a single table and I have this question:

How should I create the dimensions tables? referencing the main table? duplicating it?

I have read some articles but I couldnt find the best approach.

Thanks,

Probably best practice would be to Reference your main query in Power Query editor and remove all unneeded columns. This would be how you would create your dimension tables.

You could also do it in DAX using SELECTCOLUMNS and DISTINCT
