Some custom visual functionality stopped working

Some of our old custom visuals have stopped working, I've debugged them and can see that selectionmanager.select no longer seems to work in PBI Embedded or the web service, it does still work in PBI Desktop however. Can this be fixed or am I forced to redevelop these with the new API? These are live client visuals !! It hasn't even been communicated that this functionality would simply disappear overnight.
