So what I have done is as follows -
a. Used UpdateDatasources to update my Db server name and Db database name. I am good till here.
b. To make the above change, I am using service principal which makes me take over the dataset to update the datasource.
c. Due to takeover of dataset , I loose the credentials and it maps to PersonalCatalog. So i cannot refresh without manually updating the connection/credentials.
d. Now, I have a new ShareableCloud connection that i want to map to this dataset. How do I update this ? It uses OAuth authorization.
Please Note - I am not using Gateway , nor are these paginated reports. These are PBI desktop pbix reports.
I am looking to get this automated. Any hints/tips will help.
Thank you in advance.
Update 2-
Rebinding of reports or cloning reports is an option. But just wondering how many new semantic models /connections i will need to make.
Can the Service principal with all admin privileges not be able to update the datasource of a dataset without doing a Takeover, that should solve my issues.
If anyone has any ideas, please help.
Can the Service principal with all admin privileges not be able to update the datasource of a dataset without doing a Takeover
I would think that this would be a giant security risk. You can still ask for it. If this is important to you please consider voting for an existing idea or raising a new one at https://ideas.fabric.microsoft.com
Thank you for the perspective , anything which is a huge security risk will be rejected as an idea.
I just wanted to validate , it is not possible through any hacks or tricks 🙂
Another update - I also tried updating Connections from Fabric. It lets me update credentials .
Connections - Update Connection - REST API (Core) | Microsoft Learn
But how do I map this new Connection to the dataset since it points to PersonalCloud and I dont want to do it manually. I can see it in the drop down of the Connections/Gateway. I hope I am explaining it clearly.
Very new to API , so any help is great. Thanks again 🙂
