Regarding scroll bar in trend chart visual in Power BI
- 2 months ago
Hi karthikaE,
If you mean the built-in Power BI line/trend chart scrollbar or zoom slider, then this is not currently possible as a native setting.
Power BI opens the visual from the start of the X-axis, and there is no option to set the default scroll/zoom position to the far right / latest date.
There are older community threads with the same question where the accepted answer is that the default scrollbar position can’t be changed:- https://community.fabric.microsoft.com/t5/Desktop/default-position-of-horizontal-scroll-bar/m-p/216855
- https://community.fabric.microsoft.com/t5/Desktop/Line-chart-scroll-aligned-right/m-p/928849
There is also a Fabric Ideas request for this exact behaviour, so you may want to vote/comment there:
Possible workarounds:
- Use a relative date filter, for example last 30 days or last 12 months, so the latest data is visible when the report opens.
- if your X-axis is a real Date/DateTime column, try setting the X-axis type to Continuous. In some cases this removes the horizontal scrollbar or makes the trend easier to read. Microsoft docs for X/Y-axis formatting are here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/visuals/power-bi-visualization-customize-x-axis-and-y-axis
- Sort the X-axis descending, but this reverses the natural time order, so it may not be ideal for a trend chart.
